After a 7 year silence I decided to record this, my 10th album. Unusually, I decided on a variety of songs and genre chosen from the songs I have sung on stage and in recording studios over the years. The album title was a difficult choice as there was no definite theme. I finally decided on “Hear My Song” which is a classical arrangement of the popular “Heidelied” composed by Olaf Andresen. I included the song on the album because it holds a special memory for me. It was the first song I sang on stage as a boy soprano with a simple piano accompaniment.
The album includes a few Afrikaans songs (old and new), a few English songs and an Italian song. You will find the classical “Maria” from “West Side Story”, and to round off the whole project I end with “I’ll walk with God”.
Two years ago my friend Steve Hofmeyr honoured me with an invitation to record a duet on one of his albums. I decided to return the favour and asked him to join me for a song on this album. We chose the ever popular “So this is Christmas”.
