Fanie de Jager, a South African singer of classical and light classical music, came to the realization a few years ago, that the beautiful, melodious music of yesteryear was being neglected and largely ignored by modern musicians in South Africa. He was also convinced that many people still wanted to hear these songs, songs that reminded them of certain times or events in their lives. Research confirmed this conviction and there was overwhelming support for him to record some of these songs.

In 2000  he recorded and launched the first album  My Sentimental Soul.  This debut album very soon reached gold status and is still, after five years and six follow-up albums, one of the most popular sellers.  My Sentimental Soul  as well as the other albums, include songs in Italian, Spanish, German, English and Afrikaans. The fourth album however is recorded only in Afrikaans and is appropriately titled  Afrikaanse Juwele, meaning ‘Jewels of Afrikaans’. It reached gold status within two months of release. For six weeks it was the top Afrikaans seller and featured in the overall  South African Top 20  during the same period.
